It’s official! The 2023 FISU World University Games will be held in Lake Placid, New York, USA. This is exciting news for sports fans and athletes around the world who will have the opportunity to witness or compete in this prestigious event.
The World University Games are held every two years and feature over 9,000 athletes from 170 countries competing in 28 different sports. The Games provide a unique opportunity for young athletes to showcase their talents on an international stage and connect with fellow students from all over the globe.

When And Where Will the 2023 Live Fisu World University Games Be Held
The 2023 Live Fisu World University Games will be held in Chengdu, China from August 19-30. This will be the first time that the Games have been held in Asia, and only the second time they have been held outside of Europe (the other being the 2017 Games in Taipei, Chinese Taipei).
How Many Athletes Will Compete in the Games
The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, are scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 July to 9 August 2020. Originally due to be held in 1940, the games were postponed because of World War II. It will be the second time that Tokyo has hosted the Summer Olympics, having previously done so in 1964.
These will be the first Summer Olympics held in Asia since 1988 (Seoul) and only the fourth overall (after Beijing 2022 and Qatar 2028). A total of 11,091 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees are expected to compete in 33 sports and 339 events.
What Sports Will Be Contested at the Games
The Games will feature a total of 32 sports – 28 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
The 28 Olympic sports are archery, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, BMX biking, boxing, canoeing/kayaking, cycling, diving, equestrian (including dressage), fencing, field hockey, football (soccer), golf, gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic), handball, judo, modern pentathlon*, rowing** , rugby sevens** , sailing*** , shooting**** , skateboarding***** , sport climbing****** , surfing******* , table tennis******** , taekwondo********* and triathlon.
The four non-Olympic sports are karate********** , roller speed skating******* , softball************ and squash*************.
* Modern pentathlon was contested at the 1904 and 1912 Games but was then dropped from the programme until it was reinstated in 1952. ** Rowing has been on the programme since the inaugural 1896 Games while rugby sevens made its debut at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. *** Sailing has featured at all editions of the Games since 1896 with the exception of 1904 in St Louis.
**** Shooting was on the programme at every edition of the Olympics between 1896 and 1920 but was then left off for a period of time before being reinstated in 1972. ***** Skateboarding will make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 having previously been confirmed as a sport for Paris 2024. ****** Sport climbing featured as a demonstration sport at Beijing 2008 before making its official debut on the Tokyo 2020 programme.
******* Surfing will also make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 after being added to Paris 2024’s line-up too. ******** Table tennis has been an Olympic sport since 1988 having previously been a demonstration event on three occasions – 1932 in Los Angeles 1936 Berlin and 1948 London). ********* Taekwondo made its first appearance as an official medal event at Sydney 2000 having previously been held as a demonstration sport in Seoul 1988 Barcelona 1992 Atlanta 1996).

The Fisu World University Games 2023 will be held in Chengdu, China from August 8-19. This event is a multi-sport competition for university athletes from all over the world. Approximately 10,000 athletes will compete in 27 different sports at this event.
The Fisu World University Games are held every two years and are organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
