The 2023 World Figure Skating Championships will be held in Lake Placid, New York. This will be the first time that the event has been held in the United States since 2009. The last time Lake Placid hosted the event was in 2003.
What are Fisu Games?
The FISU Games are an international multi-sport event for university athletes, organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Games are held every two years, in even-numbered years. There are Summer and Winter editions of the Games, and they are sometimes referred to as the “Olympics for university students”.
The first edition of the FISU Games was held in 1949, in Switzerland. Since then, the Games have been held in a different city each time. Some of the recent host cities include: Shenzhen (China), Kazan (Russia), Gwangju (South Korea), Taipei (Chinese Taipei), and Almaty (Kazakhstan).
Over the years, the number of sports contested at the FISU Games has increased. Currently, there are 28 sports on the programme for the Summer Edition of the Games, and 7 sports on the programme for the Winter Edition. Some ofthe most popular sports atthe FISU Games include athletics, basketball, football (soccer), judo, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.
University athletes from all overthe world compete atthe FISU Games. In order to be eligible to compete, athletes must be enrolled full-time ata university or tertiary institution recognized by their national Olympic Committee or relevant international sport federation. The vast majorityof athletes who compete atthe FISU Games are aged between 17 and 23 years old.
The competition atthe FISU Games is extremely high level; many ofthe athletes who take part go on to compete atother major international sporting events such as the Olympic Games or World Championships. For many university athletes, competing ata FISU Game is a highlight oftheir career.

World University Games 2023 Qualifying Standards
The World University Games are an international multi-sport event for university athletes that is organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Games are held every two years, with the Summer and Winter Universiade alternating. The 2023 World University Games will be the 30th edition of the Summer Universiade and will be hosted in Chengdu, China from August 8-19, 2023.
To be eligible to compete in the World University Games, athletes must meet certain qualifying standards set by FISU. For summer sports, athletes must be between 17 and 24 years old as of December 31st of the year preceding the Games. They must also be currently enrolled as a full-time student at a university or equivalent institution recognized by their national federation.
For winter sports, athletes must be between 17 and 28 years old as of December 31st of the year preceding the Games. They must also have completed at least one semester of study at a university or equivalent institution recognized by their national federation prior to July 1st of the year preceding the Games .
Athletes who meet these age and educational requirements are then able to compete in trials or selection events organized by their national federations to earn a spot on their country’s team.
The number of athletes each nation can send to each sport is determined by FISU based on that sport’s popularity among universities worldwide as well as each nation’s recent results at previous World University Games .
With over 170 countries and nearly 10,000 athletes expected to take part, competition for spots in the World University Games is fierce. But for those lucky enough to make their country’s team, it promises to be an unforgettable experience competing against some of the best young talents in academia from all around the globe .

The World University Games 2024 will be held in Chengdu, China from August 8-19. It will be the first time that the World University Games have been held in China.

The Games are organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The 2024 Games will feature over 10,000 athletes from over 170 countries competing in 22 sports.
Chengdu was selected as the host city of the 2024 World University Games at the FISU General Assembly in Lausanne, Switzerland on December 12, 2019.
Chengdu beat out bids from Taipei and Brasov to secure the hosting rights.
The decision to award the 2024 Games to Chengdu was based on a number of factors, including:
– Chengdu’s commitment to developing university sport;
– The city’s strong track record of hosting major international sporting events;
– The high quality of facilities and infrastructure that would be available for the athletes;
– And finally, because awarding theGames to Chengdu would help promote university sport in Asia.

The sports program for the Games will include traditional Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, and gymnastics, as well as non-Olympic sports such as archery, badminton, and table tennis.
The selection of Chengdu as the host city for the 2022 Fisu World University Games was announced by FISU President Oleg Matytsin during a press conference in Lausanne, Switzerland on December 11, 2019. President Matytsin stated that Chengdu was selected due to its “long tradition of hosting international sporting events” and its “ability to provide world-class facilities and support services” for athletes and spectators.
The 2022 Fisu World University Games will be held at various venues throughout Chengdu, including the newly built Meitanbad Aquatics Centre which will host swimming and diving competitions.
Construction of this venue is currently underway and it is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
