There are currently five disciplines on the programme: athletics (track and field), basketball, futsal, handball and volleyball. All of these sports will be contested at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy. In addition to these five compulsory sports, each host city has the option to add up to three optional sports to the programme.

For example, the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei featured archery, baseball and softball as its optional sports. Athletes who wish to compete at the FISU Games must be aged between 17 and 28 years old and be enrolled at a university or equivalent institution.

What Does Fisu Stand For?

The Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire, or FISU for short, is the international governing body for university sports. Founded in 1949, it now has member associations in over 170 countries. FISU’s mission is to promote and develop university sport and physical activity around the world, as well as to promote friendship and understanding among young people through sport.

FISU stages a wide range of sporting events for university athletes, including the Summer and Winter Universiades (the world championships of university sport), and many other regional and international competitions. University athletes from all over the world come together at these events not only to compete, but also to celebrate their shared love of sport and learn from each other. FISU is also deeply committed to promoting education through sport.

Its programmes are designed to help young people develop both physically and morally, while also fostering international understanding.

World University Games 2023 Qualifying Standards

The World University Games is an international multi-sport event for university athletes that is organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Games are held every two years, with the most recent editions being in Naples, Italy (2019) and Taipei City, Chinese Taipei (2017). The 2023 edition of the World University Games will be held in Chengdu, China from August 18 to 29.

This will be the first time that China has hosted the Games. To be eligible to compete in the World University Games, athletes must: – Be between the ages of 17 and 24 as of December 31st of the year preceding the Games; – Be enrolled as a full-time student at a university or equivalent institution; – Have completed at least one academic semester at their institution prior to departure for the Games; – Not have competed previously in another edition of the Summer or Winter Universiade.

Athletes who meet these criteria can then try to qualify for Team USA by competing in either an NCAA championship event or a trials event put on by USATF. The specific qualifying standards for each sport are set by FISU and vary from event to event. For example, in order to compete in athletics (track & field) events at the 2023 World University Games, American athletes must achieve certain marks set forth by FISU.

For men, these include: 10.18 seconds or better in the 100 meter dash; 21.00 seconds or better in 200 meters; 45.60 seconds or better in 400 meters; 1:50.00 minutes or better 800 meters; 3:53 minutes 1500 meters; 8:20 minutes 3000 meter steeplechase; 13:45 minutes 5000 meters; 7.35 meters (24 feet 1 inch) long jump; 16.85m triple jump (55 feet 5 inches); 2.20m high jump (7 feet 2 ½ inches); 4x100m relay – 38.90 seconds or faster per leg.* For women*, these include: 11..58 seconds 100 meter dash ; 23..28 200 meter dash ; 52 ..48 400 meter dash ;2 :04 .

World University Games Hockey

The World University Games, also known as the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event for university athletes. The Games are organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Hockey tournament at the World University Games has been held since 1974 for men and since 1986 for women.

The Men’s tournament is open to any male student aged 17-28 who is currently enrolled in a college or university. The Women’s tournament is open to any female student aged 17-28 who is currently enrolled in a college or university. Both tournaments are played under International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) rules.

Each team is allowed 22 players on their roster, 20 skaters and 2 goalies. The tournament format consists of a preliminary round followed by a medal round. In the preliminary round, each team plays every other team in their group once.

The top 4 teams from each group advance to the medal round where they play a single elimination tournament with the winner being crowned World University Games Champion. Past champions of the Men’s tournament include: Canada (1974, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994), Czech Republic (1978), Finland (2002), Russia (1998), Sweden (2006), United States (2010). Past champions of the Women’s tournament include: Canada (1986, 1997, 1999), China (2001), Finland (2003), Russia(2005, 2007), United States (2009).

Here is a closer look at who will be representing Finland in the upcoming season: Forwards: Saku Maenalanen – A dangerous goalscorer, Maenalanen will be counted on to provide offense for the Finnish team.

He has good size and skating ability and should be a force on the power play. Mikko Lehtonen – Lehtonen is a versatile forward who can play both center and wing. He is a smart player with good vision and passing ability.

Lehtonen should see plenty of ice time in all situations this season. Teemu Turunen – Turunen is a hard-working winger who plays with an edge. He isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and he can chip in offensively as well.

Turunen will likely see time on both the power play and penalty kill this season.

Fisu World University Games Lake Placid

The FISU World University Games is an international multi-sport event for university athletes that takes place every two years. The Games are organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Lake Placid edition of the Games will be the 30th edition, and will take place from March 1-10, 2019 in Lake Placid, New York, United States.

Over 2,500 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 20 different sports at the 2019 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid. The sports program includes alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding and speed skating. The first ever Winter Universiade was held in 1960 in Chamonix-Mont Blanc (France), with just over 400 participants from 16 countries competing in only seven sports: alpine skiing; Nordic skiing (cross country skiing and ski jumping); bobsleigh; fencing; ice hockey; and speed skating.

Since then the Winter Universiade has grown steadily both in terms of participant numbers – now averaging around 2 500 competitors per event – as well as geography with events having been staged on all continents. Hosting a Winter Universiade is a great opportunity for a city or region to showcase its winter sports facilities and infrastructure as well as its ability to host large international sporting events. It also provides an excellent platform for the promotion of winter sports participation at all levels within the host nation.

The Fisu Games are an international ice hockey tournament for university students. The men’s tournament is being held in Latvia in 2023. Japan is scheduled to play against Latvia in the second game of the tournament.
